Sam Claflin: 5 Things to Know About the New ‘Hunger Games’ Star

After nearly every young, attractive actor in Hollywood was offered up as a tribute, the Hunger Games: Catching Fire finally found its Finnick Odair in young British actor Sam Claflin.

While the 26-year-old classically-trained actor is a relative newcomer to the industry, he’s already shared screen time with some of the business’ most prominent faces — from Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman. But he’s not going to let that get to his head.

"It’s easy to get caught up in the fame," Claflin told Men’s Health in 2011. "But Johnny Depp gave me this great piece of advice: If you remain true to yourself and stay grounded, you’d be well respected by everyone around you."

In Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy, Finnick, a former Hunger Games winner from District 4, befriends Katniss Everdeen at the Quarter Quell and plays an important role in her post-Games life.
